Hello my sweets

It's been so good to catch up on the buzzing and chatter out there. Everyone has changed so much. Marriage and babies and moves. Things are weird.

Since starting short 5k and 10k runs for charity a few years ago I've been (inconsistently) trying to stay active and creative. I figured I need to make more of an effort to document and keep track of what I am doing in this sense as to better track my challenges and accomplishments!

I'm in the last 3 month stretch of my sadly sedentary cube job and then I start my full time NEW job as Biology student at Arcadia. In a couple years I'll finally have my degree finished and can continue along my little witch baby way.

I've been a frequent visitor of a gym in Conshohocken (close to work) and have been experimenting with strength training and different types of cardio. I hate being boxed up in a boring gym (they don't offer classes!) but I'm making the most of it. Yesterday I biked 4.5 miles and did a strength training circuit for arms. I'll keep updating along the way!

Greetings little gremlins.
Pardon the absence.

The heavy school load is complete until Spring. It has been nice to have the pressure released. I am looking forward to starting my Bio program in January though.

This morning I ran my 5k for the AIDS Fund @ the Art Museum. Lots of people make beautiful quilts to remember loved ones they've lost. They lay dozens of them out at the bottom of the steep steps to the museum. It's all so impressive and interesting to speak with those who have made them.

Next weekend, look out! Fern, Ze, Anna, TJ, Chels & I are taking a trip to the Poconos. We rented a lovely little house on a lake and I can't wait for hikes, canoeing, drinking hot cider on frigid nights...

Glad to be back in the blog world.

Well hello there..
Where have been all this time?
I have been navigating the rocky seas of heinous cube employment and of course my studies. I am closing in on my summer semester and hustling through biology labs and truth tables. In Philadelphia, we are seeing the cool fresh light at the end of brutal heat wave. But I am itching for more of this summer frolic. More ball games and toes dipped in creeks and sand in our hair and kissing in the ocean and outgoing puppies and biking by the river.

It's night and I'm walking next to Meggie. Her lace-up heels click click click and the weather is bitter. I'm still buzzing from my afternoon and don't notice the cold a bit. We settle into a tiny restaurant and she gushes over the menu and decor and sweetness of the place. More girls flutter in, taking off coats and scarves, and I think that my friends are all so beautiful. Anna's curls are flawless and Jenn giggles but mostly keeps quiet. Meggie somehow devours her food gracefully and I wonder if this group could be more perfect. Soon we are warm and full of bread and pastas and our lips are all stained with wine. We bundle ourselves and I am the last one out, watching the girls squeeze back out into the night.

Howdy critters and kiss my grits got damn I am back home at last!
I spent a wonderful New Year's holiday on a road trip to Nashville with Meggie. I saw sweet Aunt Robin and Uncle Bob of course, my head spun in the Grand Ole Opry and in true holiday fashion, smooched myself a little old southern boy after the guitar dropped from the sky at midnight. Glad to be home, sad to be gone- but I'm still dancing through the honky tonks in my bed at night!

Pleasantly surprised at the ease of which I floated through Christmas. And now we have our final celebration to complete our year and our decade.
2009 was incredible:
-I ran a 5k
-I went on a ten day trip to Maine for July 4th and canoed every night at sunset
-I got my first job with full benefits
-I fell in love with my two kittens
-I stuck up for myself and moved on
-I finally settled into living alone for the first time
-I met Meggie
-I spent Thanksgiving running around Salem and Cambridge with Fern, Ze and Icaro
-I went on a road trip to Nashville
-I ate more burritos than ever before
-I connected with very interesting individuals through blogging
-I was in a market research study and made $450
-I saw Mount Eerie and the Dirty Projectors live

2010 is coming babies, and it will just keep getting better! ah life!

Greetings my creatures! I have returned from my yearly pilgrimage to Salem, Mass with friends Fernanda, Joe Ze and Icaro & feeling quite refreshed! We spent our days wandering through the town...poking around the shops, breathing in the fresh airs of the harbour, tip-toeing through the zig-zag aisles of a cramped bookstore and taking in the history of the museums. In the evenings we went into Boston for food and delicious local brews. For Fernanda's birthday we went to a Portuguese restaurant in Cambridge. Yeeez my stomach was not prepared. Snapped some pics...I miss New England already!

Kokomo Arnold-Cold Winter Blues

Three bundled babies set out into the murk on a particularly eerie Friday the thirteenth. Unsuspecting and without an expectation they walked forwards and never backwards. Passing by a rather bustling gallery their noses turned towards the windows and they clicked back on the heels of their boots and stepped in front of the colorful walls. Tip toe tip toe in a large loop of the room gazing at the artwork and off they went. Mists and sprinkles jumped from clouds but they skipped along and now what do we have here?! A cozy corner with walls of traveled old boots and tables with bundled fabrics and jewels. Hastily pick a treasure ladies, and continue continue on your travels...What else next but a sticky cave full of white beards and fur collars and blurry red green blue lights illuminating a smokey haze. No, no this is not right...Hop skip and to the next...ahh yes a buzzing purring lively den with low hums coming from no direction at all. Success.. And with a stomach full of toasty morsels and tongues wet with tangy cold refreshment, they make way to depart for the last time of the evening.

Meggie sits across from me and it's dark and dank in a bar a few blocks from our apartments. She says she always liked the way it smelled in there but we both agree it's just dampness and leftover cigarette stench. It doesn't matter that our food is taking forever as we talk about silly old crushes and childhood quirks. She checks her phone often and relays silly messages to me that her crush sends. He's rapid fire, and by the end of dinner her phone is face down on the table and she rolls her eyes. She shares a clear image as I do of what she wants in her life. I feel refreshed talking about it and empowered and strong and free and sad for what must be let go to get what you want but glad to be capable to do so. Her hair is long, completely brilliant and it hangs curls twists down the exposed back of her shirt. She drives me the three blocks to my house and her car sits still humming until I am inside and closing my door.

I take off my clothes at the door and dip my face into the sink to wash. I like not having to answer to anyone.

I survived my 5k race this morning!!!! And with the final tally, I raised about $550!
I had been a nervous wreck all week as the weather called for rain rain rain all morning. I got lucky with a mere misting throughout the run, so that made for a much more enjoyable experience...We got a late start, but in the end I finished in a little under 30min which I couldn't be happier with since I am NOT a skilled runner.
So, until next year Philly babies...

Another film I don't condone, but cannot gush over.
Gush is bad word. A terrible choice of word.
The subject matter is horrific and will sit on you like a disease, but the cinematography (and more importantly the estate on which it is set) is something for which I can offer much praise.
Should you see it? I don't know.
Am I using my blog to push a recommendation? I'm not sure.

Sometimes it's absolutely necessary to skip the gym, walk in the door from work, fall face first onto the couch, moan incoherently to your pets, take an insanely hot shower, lay down in the insanely hot shower, sit on your bedroom floor naked playing ds, light candles and wisp around your house, apartment, studio, flat, stare at the ceiling dreaming of boys, hang maps on your walls, spread sketch books and pencils and markers and photos on your bed and draw out your dreams and you in every single place you dream about seeing and then it's MIDNIGHT and you're going to be so fucked at work tomorrow but so SO content. I stare down at our heels vibrating in little tubs of bubbles. Meggie's hands are trembling, clasped around her phone. "Nooooooo!" She shrieks in her strong and girly and sometimes timid voice. "I was outbid!" She is desperately tracking a pair of boots on Ebay and quickly forgets her loss. Soon I am quickly strapping on my shoes and shuffling out the door with her to a bar across the street. We hop and skip over the streets, minding our toes. We are in an even darker bar now and I watch Meggie's smile fall as she tells me about her parting words with her last love. I share mine and shake my whole body until I feel loose and the feeling has evaporated. We shrug off our brief fog and make plans plans plans tomorrow next week five years 30 years old..for ourselves and our bodies and sex and those we know and those we used to know. We are full and warm now and dancing in the street next to a fence, laughing. "I'm in the mood for a long walk," she says.
